An aquila was a prominent symbol used in ancient Rome, especially as the standard of a Roman legion. A legionary known as an aquilifer, the "eagle-bearer", carried this standard. Each legion carried one eagle. The eagle had quasi-religious importance to the Roman soldier, far beyond being merely a symbol of his legion. No legionary eagles are known to have survived. However, other Roman eagles, either symbolizing imperial rule or used as funerary emblems, have been discovered
Perfume, sweat, skin and hair products can all react with silver causing it to tarnish, cause vermeil to erode and even damage stones – especially pearls. Always apply your products before putting on your jewellery and leave for a few minutes to be absorbed by the skin. Avoid spraying perfume or hairspray directly onto your jewellery as this can damage it.
Our vermeil is a layer of fine 24ct gold, plated on top of silver. As this is just a layer it can gradually wear, giving the appearance that it has faded. Every day wear may speed up this process, especially on items like rings and bracelets which have lots of contact knocking against objects. We offer a re-plating service for our vermeil jewellery.
