Since antiquity, the snake has been a symbol of rebirth and transformation in various cultures. In ancient Greek mythology, Asclepius, the god of medicine, was often depicted with a snake-entwined staff, representing his ability to heal and even resurrect the dead using snake venom as both a poison and a healing remedy. The snake's shedding of its skin and hibernation added to its symbolism of renewal and regeneration. While snakes were associated with medicine and healing, they were also connected to toxicology due to their potential for venomous effects. Across different cultures, snakes have been revered and feared, embodying complex and contradictory qualities, but their role as a totem of rebirth and connection to medicine has been a prevailing motif throughout history and mythology.
